Acolytes
All
Christians are called to let their light shine! At the beginning of
each worship service,
an Acolyte brings in light, and lights candles to remind us that Christ,
the Light of the World, is present in and among us as we worship. The
lit candles also remind us that we, too, as the body of Christ, are
the light of the world. At the end of the service, the Acolyte, carries
the light out of the sanctuary and, symbolically, into the world. The
congregation follows the light and takes it to those places where it
is most needed.
An acolyte performs this and
other functions during the worship service. Both children and adults
can serve as acolytes. In the Heritage Church, acolyte training is
offered to children usually when they reach the third grade. Training
is offered once a year, in the Fall, or as needed, by the Pastor. Nursery
Nursery
is provided on Sunday mornings from 8:15-12:15 for children age 5 and
younger. Nursery is provided on many
other occasions based on need.
